T-Shirt Try-On Target + J.Crew
The quest for the best t-shirt feels never ending. You find the perfect one, it wears out, you go to replace it, the store doesn’t carry it anymore. You’re back to square one.
It feels tiring because guess what, you need t-shirts! It’s an essential I don’t think you should go with out. It’s a piece that can make or break a casual wardrobe. When you have great tees you can feel relaxed in your look without feeling frumpy.
I am doing the best I can to help you with this quest. Here is a round up of some tees I tried on from J.Crew, J.Crew Factory, and Target.

TARGET
The Universal Thread tee would serve a purpose in your wardrobe if you had a need for a fitted tee. However, when shopping for a tee that fulfills the Wardrobe Essentials Checklist the fit and fabric isn’t quite what we’re looking for. The fabric is thick with little movement, not offering the relaxed drape we want. When the fabric isn’t right the fit will be off too. Even if you go up a size to get more room, you’re not going to get more movement in this garment.
Here is the Universal Thread tee pictured in plus size. I love that this missy brand is offering plus size options, it’s a great step towards size inclusivity. But you know what, sometime an actual plus size brand will just do it better. Keep scrolling to see the Ava + Viv option from Target, an actual plus size brand and how their basic tee fits!
If you are plus size and looking for a basic tee option, this is one of my favorites [so far]. I love the fabric, the length, the cut through the bust and shoulders, and the hem line. This tee is actually cut for a plus size shape, not just a missy tee made into a bigger size. This is why plus size brands are sometimes better to shop, because the actual design and construction of the garment is made for a plus size body.
J.Crew does a lot of things well, especially the basics. I am a big fan of their clothes, but my budget doesn’t always align. Keep scrolling to see my review of the factory option in this tee. You can decide what is worth the investment. I can tell you that you won’t be disappointment with either option!
I sorta knew the J.Crew slub cotton tee would be my favorite 🤩 . I have a history with this tee. I spent the better part of my 20’s and a few years in my 30’s working for J.Crew and I can guess I owned this tee in about 1 zillion colors. It has everything we want in fabric, cut, color, fit, and details. Some say the factory brand doesn’t wash up as nicely as the retail option. I would guess that the retail tee has about a 30% better quality fabric. I hang dry all my tees to get a longer life out of them for reference.
