Target Swimwear [bottoms] Try-On 3/4/21
You’ve been able to find the perfect swim top, but tracking down a bottom that gives you the coverage you want while fitting comfortably… That’s a whole different story, right!? Everybody is looking for a different feature. Maybe you want a high rise, or for your hips and thighs to be covered. Maybe you need something you can be active in, or something that is better for lounging. Anyway you slice it, finding great swim bottoms can feel dicey.
I grabbed a few different styles from Target and there was a lot to learn from all the different styles I tried on. Let’s talk though it all.

I think swim skirts are such a good option if you want lots of coverage and comfort. Personally I find them to deliver a more balanced and easy-to-wear fit than shorts. This skirt will fit on the short side, but the good news is that there’s enough stretch pull it to a higher rise than shown in the picture. Unfortunately this only goes up to a missy XL. It fit me, an apple shape size 16/18 well enough, but I would have gone up a size if I could.
This fabric felt like butter. So soft and stretchy, I loved it. Tons of movement in the skirt and the slit is in just the right place to avoid a frumpy or boxy look. The rise on this is too low for my liking, but bottom curvy girls will love it! Even with the stretch, the way it’s cut you can’t really pull the rise up any higher.
If you have a straight shape or top curvy shape and a sporty style, this swim skirt was made for you! The grommets on the tie waist give it that beach volleyball/surfer look, and the length was the longest of all 3 skirts I tried on. However, there was absolutely no stretch at all, getting it on was tough. Bonus, it also has pockets!
Swim shorts are a hard one gang. I can almost bet you won’t find a pair with a higher rise. These have enough stretch to pull up higher on the waist, but then they’ll will ride straight up the front and back, ouch. If you want fuller coverage on the hip and thigh, go with a skirt. It will be way easier to fit with curves and you will find a better variety of comfortable fits!
See above. These are pretty much the same short as the other pair I tried, but they have a fun edgy detail on the side!
Winner!!! This was my favorite pair and definitely a keeper. Why they worked so well, because they are a plus size. When you are on the edge of missy and plus, somewhere between a 14-18, plus size will sometimes just work better! As an apple shape I need more coverage through the tummy, and plus size delivers it. My other trick as an apple shape is to shop tall sizes in swimwear!
This is another pair of great full coverage bottoms, with a lower rise. As an apple anything that is at or below the belly button feels awkward on my waist. Mid to lower rise bottoms deliver a more comfortable fit and balanced fit on a bottom curvy or straight shape gal. These also have a pocket, bonus!
I love these, but they don’t quite fit. Why? Because they’re not plus. You can see how I don’t have the coverage I want through the front. The other briefs in the plus size have the best front coverage for my shape. The rise is great and I lover the fabric. If I could go up a size I’d probably keep them, but you can’t. They only come in missy, booh!
If there was a picture in the dictionary of a bikini brief, this would be it! Class fit all around and has great coverage through the front and back. Another one that doesn’t come in a plus though. If you’re a 16 or above I would recommend shopping the Kona Sol plus size, better stretch all around!
