Target Denim Short Try-On

Ava + Viv
Plus size clothing offering a wide range of benefits if you are on the fringe (anywhere from a 12-16, apple shape and bottom curvy). When you carry more curves and you are in the range for plus size you’ll find the cut and fabric to offer more room in the fit and more comfort in the way the fabric will either stretch or drape on your shape. In the plus size short option you will find the legs to be looser, great for curves in the hips, and the rise to have more room, great for apple shape midsections.

I never thought I’d ever say this in my lifetime, but these are too high of a rise for me. 😂 The way the rise and cut of the leg frame off my shape feels uncomfortable for me. If you are straight shape and full through the leg, give these a go!

Love, love, love! This rise and fit through the mid section gives me just the room I need for my apple shape (full and curvy through the belly). The legs are little loose on me, considering I have no hips. If you want more room but still want a narrow leg, keep scrolling!

These have great stretch trough the leg, not so much in the waist. If I went up a size I think these would fit more comfortably. They also pulled on me in the rise, because my belly takes up so much of the rise they get tight on the crotch. They are a no for me but a go for straight shape or bottom curvy.

These are a smooth and sculpt fabric, which means skin tight! They are soft and moveable, so no problem there. I could get them buttoned, but for sure a size too small. I also don’t love long shorts on my apple shape. For me as an apple I think 3”-5” delivers the most balanced fit. Most often you’ll find with a straight shape anywhere from a 3“-7” feels balanced, and with a bottom curvy 5”-7”. Also note, wear what you want! If having longer or shorter shorts feels most comfortable for you no matter your shape, than wear it!

Whomp, whomp. Same short, same brand, same size, different fit. It happens! Why did it happen here, different fabric. This fabric did not have the same stretch that the lightwash had, making it difficult to fit.

Yes you see these buttoned, but they are too small. I would need an 18 to feel more comfortable in these. Let’s talk about the style. These would deliver the most value in a boho/edgy closet. I could absolutely wear these and feel cute in them. However, as a preppy/sporty I would find a limited about of pieces that would match with them and I would most likely get over the ‘newness’ or ‘variety’ they bring to my closet quickly. Don’t be seduced by something ‘different’, you will find the most value when it authentically reflects your style!

Ok, let’s talk about the difference in missy and plus size, but not only that, the difference in a missy brand that offers extended sizing verses an actual plus size brand. Ava + Viv is an actual plus size brand. You will not find anything smaller than a size X or 14W. Their clothes are specifically cut and designed for plus size. Universal Thread is a missy brand that offers extended sizing. Meaning they will offer this exact short in a size range from 00-26W. This would be a style that would get bigger, but not necessarily roomier. So you if you want a bigger size, but still need a narrow leg this is your short!
