Target Shorts Try-On Spring 2020
As unpredictable as things are right now there is one thing we can always count on, summer! There has been a lot of things brought to a stop, but the seasons changing is not one of them.
Trying on and finding the right pair of shorts to wear for summer can be a daunting task, I get it! So instead of you having to go to the store [which you can’t anyways right now,] I went for you [and by went I mean ordered on-line and had too many packages delivered to count.] I ordered any all shorts that I thought might be a good style, price, and look for us this season. I tried on 15 pairs and here is what I thought of each one!
Disclaimer: Every pair I tried on was from Target and there are affiliate links in this post!
This pair, along with most of the Universal Thread styles has amazing stretch. It’s a fabric blend they are calling smooth and sculpt. The rise was comfortable and the button fly didn’t pull on my apple shape as much as I thought it would!
This was the same smooth and sculpt fabric, but I felt the fit was much more comfortable with the traditional zip fly. The waist seemed to hit in a better place with the traditional zip fly as well.
Let’s take a moment to talk about length and what might work best for different body shapes, because on my apple body this tight fitting 9” is not delivering the most balanced look or fit.
Apple - 3’ - 7”
Bottom Curvy - 5” - 7”
Straight - 3” - 9”
This pair continued to have great stretch and movement, along with a moderate high rise. They are not as light of a wash as seen in the image, but that doesn’t bother me. I do like the distressed look with the raw hem, but if you are trying to keep a capsule or minimalist wardrobe I would recommend a pair with one or the other. A distressed wash or unfinished hem, not both.
This is the first style I tried on without the stretch fabrication, so I had to go up to a size 18. With my apple shape I either need stretch in the fabric to fit over my belly, or I need to go up a size to fit over my belly. This pair is my favorite pair so far and most likely the ones I’ll keep from the denim category. The size doesn’t bother me, I shop for fit and comfort not for what a tag says.
Whomp whomp. This was the first pair that didn’t fit, I couldn’t even get them to buttoned. I would go up to a size 18 but they didn’t have them available when I placed this order. The light wash makes them less versatile than a dark wash would be. This would be a great ‘bonus’ pair to have after you have secured a good dark to medium wash staple pair of denim shorts!
I love these shorts! Having an alternative wash is a great way to mix it up and add variety in a basic category. This olive wash would deliver more value and productivity than the light wash pair above, even though they are both considered a ‘bonus’ buy. You would be shocked to see how much olive pairs well with in your closet!
You will die when you see the name of these shorts, they are called the Mom Jeans Short! I love it! This pair is from the Wilde Fable brand, which is the junior label. Knowing that these shorts are a junior cut I didn’t even try on the 16, I went straight for the 18. They don’t have much stretch, but just as the name suggests the rise perfectly high!
This was another pair I had to size up in. They do have stretch but the 16 just didn’t cut it for me. I am a mom of two toddlers, white shorts aren’t in the game plan for me anytime soon. However this pair is pre-treated to resist stains and dirt so they keep their brilliance longer. You can see through the fabric, pocket outlines and all. You’d be hard pressed to find a white denim short that you couldn’t see through unless you went to a premium brand.
I love a good chino short. My best recommendation for summer shorts is 1 denim, 1 chino, 1 fashion. A nice pair of chino shorts is perfect for wearing with a blouse and cute wedges for a dressy casual look. Chino shorts will most likely not have stretch to them, as is the case for this pair so I did have to size up to an 18. I love this bold mustard, it’s one of my best colors so it will work perfectly into my closet, but grey or navy are the most versatile colors to go with!
I saved the best for last. Stretchy pull on comfy shorts! These last 4 pairs are all the same, 2 solid 2 striped. I have on an XL in all pairs, but upon further review I would recommend trying your true size and down a size. Because of my apple shape I don’t think down a size would fit over my belly, but if you are straight through the waist and hips you might find these to be a bit loose.
